It's been a great experience over the last few years working full time and balancing this film part time on the side. But I finally decided to take the plunge and start working on it full time. It's a big commitment but it should reap some benefits as aspects of the project speed up and I get more time to work on larger tasks on the film, like animation and lighting.

Part time it's been a stretch supporting the team and directing everything through the forum but it could be even more challenging finding large chunks of time to work on things like animation. I've pulled it off a few times and done a handful of shots so far but usually at great sacrifice to my personal life. Many of you will already know how tricky it can be.

I have known a few people that have given up their jobs to work on their films full time, and some that simply juggle it with short freelance work. I've talked to many of them at length and it's been quite inspiring. But I've also learned a great deal about the risks. I've wanted to do it for some time, and I've had a few short stints between jobs in the past, but I knew that I'd always hit a brick wall eventually as the assets were in production and that would have stopped me getting on with other things. Today the assets are virtually complete with only scraps left to go, so it's easy for me to now move ahead on most aspects of the film without too many obstacles. It will mean slightly more generous time to offer the team feedback, and faster turn-arounds on support, but mostly I'm looking forward to building a routine of animation and over night rendering.
