This is a work in progress render and comp, based on Eduardo's light setup. I've re-rendered the pixie dust. I've noticed you have to go to the transparency gradient tab and remove the middle dark colour as it makes the pixie dust go dark. I'm going to render another version of the beam to mask the wand, but I think we need to find a way to remove the glow... what's the easy way to do that? There are a lot of linked materials on teh beam. I'm going to render the beard again to remove the clothes from that layer... how is that layer made? It's not a normal render of the beard, and I'm not familiar with the technique used on that. The biggest challenge is going to be the tail. It looks really different to Andy's shot. Can you guys swap notes? I like the look of Andy's version and the downward movement works well. This version looks nice and soft, but it's too dense and flickers. There were a lot of Halo layers in this setup that I've not needed so we can cut back on those in future.
Comment by Michael Cawood - Director on December 18, 2010 at 11:08am Andy - What did you do on Cupid's tail to get his look in your shot? Can we apply the changes to the Cupid asset so that we get a consistent look?
Comment by iskander Mellakh on December 18, 2010 at 11:23am Hey Mike,
sorry I never got round to doing that at the time my 2011 version wasnt working so I couldnt check the file to see what changes he made :(
The appropriate settings should be in the v17 file in Dropbox - if there's a Maya version problem I can do some screengrabs of the settings (easier than trying to explain it in words, I think).
Comment by Michael Cawood - Director on December 19, 2010 at 2:30pm Yes, but without knowing much about it... what should we be looking for? Did you change much from the default asset? Did you over-ride the shader? Or anything else? I want to get these defaults into the asset so that we don't have to do it for every shot.
I think this is all that differs from the original. I'm not very familiar with how Maya's asset referencing system works, so I'd sooner someone who knows what they're doing makes the actual changes, otherwise something unfortunate might happen...
The colours and their positions in the shading ramps are quite critical, so it's best to copy the exact values for each control point, rather than trying to eyeball it.
Comment by Michael Cawood - Director on December 19, 2010 at 3:48pm Excellent. Thank you Andy. If I get a chance I'll take a look, unless Iskander gets to it first. But this should help Eduardo as well.
Comment by Eduardo Roa on December 19, 2010 at 4:00pm Ok.. perfect Thanks.
Comment by iskander Mellakh on December 19, 2010 at 5:15pm Cupids settings have been altered. except the colour settings for the light as I did the edit in Maya 2009, so Mike when you get a chance can you edit that section as I wont have 2011 until Thursday (when I start my Xmas holidays :) ) I also set the min/max values for the texture time to -1/+1.
latestversion is cupid_version 57
Comment by Michael Cawood - Director on December 19, 2010 at 5:34pm We don't want to use 2011 on the Cupid Asset anyway. All assets are supposed to be edited in Maya 2009 so that's fine.
Comment by Eduardo Roa on December 19, 2010 at 10:41pm Andy, do you change or animated some value to create the animation in the tail?.
